Core Practice 5: Co-Teaching Using Effective Instructional Practices

Student-centered coaching is absed on a partnership approach where the teacher and coach work side-by-side with students. When coaches work in classrooms, it ought to be hard to tell the difference between the coach and teacher because they are equally as engaged in the instruction.

Co-teaching creates authentic partnerships. Rather than sitting on the sidelines, the coach and teacher are in the mix, reflecting on their decision-making, problem solving, and figuring out how to adjust instruction in the moment.

What it Looks/Sounds Like?

Here are five coaching move we use in this core practice:

  • Noticing and naming
  • Thinking aloud
  • Teaching in tandem
  • You pick four
