Youth Equity Stewardship Model

The five phases of Youth Equity Stewardship ignite a creative energy in students and staff to lead social change.

 

PHASE 1: PERSONAL CULTURE/PERSONAL JOURNEY

  • Share and experience culture though personal stories.
  • Gain perspective from the collective diversity of the community.
  • Discover how inequality impacts personal and institutional relationships. 

PHASE 2: SOCIAL DOMINANCE TO SOCIAL JUSTICE

  • Explore how oppression and social dominance play a role in the school environment.
  • Learn to recognize oppressive behaviors and their impact.
  • Empower students to act as leaders against oppression.

PHASE 3: CREATIVE EXPRESSION/CREATIVE RESISTANCE

  • Inspire students to use their story and creative expression as tools for social justice.
  • Harness the power of the arts to develop deeper connections with others. 

PHASE 4: COMMUNITY AWARENESS / COMMUNITY ACTION

  • Transition students from learning to applying leadership in their own communities.
  • Energize students to address the real challenges within their school environment.
  • Develop plan of action that fosters inter-generational collaboration.

PHASE 5: STEWARDSHIP IN MOTION

  • Empower students to become authentic leaders of social change in their schools.
  • Experience stewardship in action by offering creativity, compassion and courage to others.

CELEBRATION PERFORMANCE

  • Engage students in a multi-media collaboration.
  • Boost community awareness through the experiences of the students.
  • Set the foundation for collaborative efforts to address systemic inequalities.
